Visakhapatnam: In line with the Government of India's goal and global initiatives to reduce carbon emissions drastically so as to become a net zero economy by 2070, Eco Carbon Engineering Solutions Ltd launched a project to study the feasibility of carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS).
As global temperatures continue to rise due to human activity, global warming has emerged as one of the most significant challenges faced by nations around the world. In response to this urgent issue, the global community, including the Government of India, is taking steps to mitigate its impacts. One of the most ambitious goals in this fight against climate change is to achieve a carbon-positive economy. The Government of India has committed to making the nation carbon-positive by reducing its carbon footprint and increasing carbon sequestration by 2070.
In a significant development towards efforts on sustainability, Eco Carbon Engineering Solutions Ltd, a Ramky Group company, started India’s first environmental organisation dedicated to sustainability, by initiating major steps in the area of CCUS, working in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology--Bombay and several world-renowned organisations which include Furgo-Europe and ESR Technologies, USA.
Visakha Pharmacity Ltd, an industrial park housing more than 100 pharma companies at Parawada, about 40 km from here. The new project's collaboration aims to evaluate the technical, environmental, and economic feasibility of CCUS technology at Visakha Pharmacity Limited, a major industrial hub in India.
The outcome of this study will help pave the way for large-scale implementation of CCUS solutions in India, contributing to the nation’s broader goal of achieving carbon neutrality and ultimately becoming a carbon-positive country, P.P. Lal Krishna, CEO of Visakha Pharmacity Ltd, told Bizz Buzz.
He said the implementation of CCUS technologies could be a game-changer for India’s climate goals, by capturing CO₂ emissions and either storing them safely underground or utilising them for industrial manufacturing purposes.
